2005 BAY HANOVERIAN MARE, 16.1H
(Gold Luck-EM Whitney Q/Weltbekannt)
Ghourmet "Julia" (as in Childs) is our 2005 blingy bay Hanoverian mare by Gold Luck and out of the Elite Hanoverian Mare EM Whitney Q. She was bred by Mo Swanson of Rolling Stone Farm and purchased as a weanling.
Julia is now working under saddle after being started in the late summer of 2008. I have been very pleased with her aptitude and progress so far and she learns quickly and seems to like the work. She was exceptionally well behaved at her first clinic in November with Rick Klaassen after only a few months of riding. Each time out I am happy when I put her away and she improves with leaps and bounds every session. She has a big stride, super walk and lofty movement.
I think she's just going to need time to grow into herself and she's going to be really fun and I'm looking forward to showing her.
Ghourmet's Pedigree
Julia's bloodlines contain some of the finest dressage bloodlines available in Germany and the U.S.
She has Grand Prix dressage competitors on the top and bottom of her pedigree and it includes the renowned blood of Bolero, Grundstein I, and Weltmeyer. Her motherline through granddam Lady L (Leibniz-SPS Biggy/Bolero) has produced eleven approved stallions, as well as the highly successful Grand Prix dressage competitors Leopold and Borsalino. Lady L's dam, SPS Biggy, is a full sister to Bon Bonaparte.

Lineage
Gold Luck
Gold Luck has been a leading sire on the USEF list for dressage horses each year. His pedigree contains some of Hannover's most noted dressage sires, including those of the legendary Grande line. His motherline also includes the influential A-line which descends from the renowned Absatz. His dam, Annette by Abundance, scored 8.2 at her mare inspection. In 1995, Gold Luck's full sister Graphitti was the high score Hanoverian Mare at her inspection. (Photo: Susan Sexton)
EM Whitney Q
Dam EM Whitney Q received a 9 in both rideability and walk in her Mare Performance Test. She has been an excellent producer of riding horses and several of Julia's older full siblings are demonstrating the same rideability and good gaits in the dressage arena.
Grundstein I
Julia's paternal grandsire was the legendary Grand Prix Dressage Stallion Grundstein I, who was imported to the US in 1985 after siring 13 fully approved breeding stallions in Germany. He was a leading sire in the FN rankings among stallions in the top 10% of their age group in both jumping and dressage for many years. In 1995 Grundstein's dressage index was 178 and his jumping index was 142.
Weltbekannt
Maternal grandsire, Weltbekannt by Weltmeyer (World Cup I/Absatz) out of Inka (Imperator/ Werther), is owned by Suzanne Quarles of Some Day Soon Farm and has been an extraordinary dressage competitor. In 1998 he was second in the USDF Horse of the Year awards at Second Level and awarded Champion Hanoverian Second Level Horse. He was USDF’s Third Level Horse of the Year in 1999, and was also awarded Champion Hanoverian at Third Level. He continued his great successes with Fred Weber in 2000, by winning ten Fourth Level Tests and being awarded Champion Hanoverian Fourth Level Horse, and in 2001 by again being awarded Champion Hanoverian at Prix St. Georges. In early 2004, he began showing Intermediaire II, with a median score of 67.075%, which put him second nationally for Horse of the Year and first for Hanoverians. By the end of the year he was successfully competing in Grand Prix. (Photo: Cappy Jackson)
Weltmeyer
What more can be said about Weltmeyer? He is a legend. As the AHS put it, "Weltmeyer continues to almost single-handedly reshape the Hanoverian breed." He was the 1986 winner of the stallion licensing in Verden, and the 1987 winner of the stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf. In the same year Weltmeyer also won the three-year-old stallions classification at the Federal Championships of German Riding Horses in Warendorf. In 1988 he was honored in Verden as best stallion of his age-group and awarded with the "Freiherr von Stenglin-Prize". One year later he became DLG Champion 1989 in Frankfurt. And last but not least he became "Hanoverian Stallion of the Year" in 1998. As of today, Weltmeyer has produced 70 licensed sons, all of them are excellent stallions. A study of the pedigrees of many internationally prominent Hanoverian dressage horses reveals that many are either by sons of Weltmeyer or out of one of his daughters. At the 2002 Ratje Niebuhr-Show, Weltmeyer was the leading sire. Out of 51 mares which placed first through third in 17 classes, Weltmeyer sired eight, including champion SPS Wiami and and reserve champion Wicke. Overall, his blood was present in one third of all the mares, by from 25% to 50% percent. When it comes to capacity for dressage and the temperament necessary for a top competitor, this stallion simply cannot be beaten. In 2005, Weltmeyer received a Breeding Value Index of 152 points, with an assurance of 99% heritability, from the German Equestrian Federation.
EM Lady L.
Lady L, Whitney’s dam won under saddle at Devon in 1991. In 1997 she became an Elite mare. At a PVDA Breed Show in 1998, she qualified for Devon and the USDF Championships by winning Reserve Grand Champion. Lady L is by Leibniz out of SPS Biggy by Bolero, and was bred by Hermann Meyer of Germany. Her damline has produced eleven approved stallions, as well as the highly successful Grand Prix dressage competitors Leopold and Borsalino. Lady L's dam is a full sister to Bon Bonaparte. Show and Inspection Results
As with many horses of the Hanoverian G-line, Julia has been a little bit of a late bloomer physically so I am planning on holding off on her mare inspection until fall or the summer of 2009. I am really looking forward to this coming show season with an eye to taking her out to some schooling shows this summer.
VideoS
This video of Julia was taken when she was just 45 days under saddle as a three-year-old- my young horse trainer was sad to see her leave as she enjoyed riding her very much. Kelly is the best at starting youngsters!
